Introduction
The ship-owners are interested in quick ship turnaround in ports. In order to have satisfied customers and to base decisions, the management must have factual information on performance. This course is intended to present basic indicators common for any port/terminal operation and any type of cargo. The indicators are 1) the ship operation, 2) the transfer operation, 3) the shed/storage operation and 4) the delivery/receipt operation. The course also includes 5) berth management and 6) general aspects of operations planning. Case studies are mainly referable to general cargo handling terminals but the concept is valid for any type of port/terminal.
Objectives
- Knowledge in creating port/terminal operational performance indicators,
- An explanation of calculating the different indicators,
- Knowledge in the practical meaning and the use of indicators for building good arguments to convince the port/terminal management that bad performance needs to be improved.
- The sessions will be conducted in an interactive format designed to provide guidance on understanding the concept, and also on developing awareness.

Training Methodology
This is an interactive course. There will be open question and answer sessions, regular group exercises and activities, videos, case studies, and presentations on best practice. Participants will have the opportunity to share with the facilitator and other participants on what works well and not so well for them, as well as work on issues from their own organizations. The online course is conducted online using MS-Teams/ClickMeeting.
